Our History

Vision

1863 Davis Rd. began as the West Falls Fire Company in 1918.

We purchased the building in 1996 and opened Butterwood Desserts, adding many additions and improvements through the years.

After selling our dessert business in 2009 we began using the former front retail space and balcony for morning piano lessons - Monday through Friday from 6am - 8am before school.

The classes went on for 2 years and the outcome was nothing short of phenomenal. The kids’

progress was incredible and they went to school absolutely on fire with 2 hours of mental calisthenics already under their belt.

Word began to spread and we soon asked our longtime friend Doug Yeomans to help us put more life into the building with some weekend concerts. They began small, using only the front space where the stage is now, and the musicians on the floor in front of the parking lot side wall.

As we slowly grew in numbers, our vision for the Center began to take form. We received our 501c3 non profit status and started knocking down walls. Putting up tarps and making things as welcoming as possible as we began construction.

With help from the Amish and so many volunteers, thing began to take shape and after a few years we eventually completed the remodeling. We created a stage out of plastic milk crates and plywood, we relocated the snack bar, added a bar for beer and wine in the back room, built new restrooms, and added many chairs and donated furniture, covered everything with pine and put up a sign.

Along with concerts on the weekends, we began other free community programs and events including music lessons for Veterans, Musical Memories Cafe for caregivers and their loved ones with dementia, Kids Music Jam, Southtowns Youth Jazz Orchestra, Community Thanksgiving, masterclasses and music clinics.

We continue to grow our board, our volunteers and our wonderful musical events, always trying to make the experience of being here a welcoming one for our guests and the artists who soon become our extended family.
